Playing Career: Mike's hockey journey began in Vancouver, where he played for the Burnaby Winter Club, Vancouver Selects, and Yale Hockey Academy. He made a mark in junior hockey with the Ridge Meadows Flames, earning Rookie of the Year. Heading to California, Mike played three seasons for the Fresno Monsters, becoming their all-time leading scorer. In his final season, he clinched the scoring title with an impressive 120 points. This success earned him a scholarship to the College of St. Scholastica, where he excelled both athletically and academically, graduating with a finance degree. After college, Mike took his talents to Europe to play 2 seasons of professional, playing for the Morzine-Avoriaz Penguins. In his second year, he played a crucial role in winning the championship on home ice in Morzine.
On-Ice Coaching: In 2016, Mike assumed the role of development coaching in California, dedicating himself to shaping the future of aspiring hockey players. Over the years, his coaching journey has seen significant growth, culminating in the establishment of Nexlevel Hockey Canada in 2023. Renowned for his meticulous attention to detail, Mike specializes in power skating, advanced edge work, puck handling, and position-specific training with a holistic approach to player development, Mike strikes a balance between firmness and fairness. He consistently sets high standards, guiding players to surpass expectations each season. Mike takes pride not only in coaching a sport but also in witnessing the transformative journeys of his players. At Nexlevel Hockey Canada, he fosters a culture of excellence and growth, showcasing his steadfast commitment to the development of both individuals and the sport itself. In addition to his role at Nexlevel Hockey Canada, Mike has taken on the position of an on-ice development coach and coaching mentor for Abbotsford Minor Hockey. This role reflects his dedication to supporting and mentoring the youth in his area, ensuring they excel in the realm of hockey. Mike's commitment to coaching and mentoring extends into the future, as he continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing the talents of aspiring young hockey players.
Mentoring/Advising: Since 2021, Mike has played a crucial role as a mentor and family advisor with Nexlevel Hockey USA. With a proven track record having players who have played in leagues such as BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL, OJHL, USHL, NAHL, NCDC, USPHL, KIJHL, PJHL, CSSHL, BCEHL, and more, Mike goes beyond on-ice skills. He focuses on holistic player development, offering guidance in goal setting, league and college education, workouts, nutrition, film study, and navigating challenges in the hockey world. Drawing from his personal experiences as a player, Mike establishes a relatable connection with each individual. His extensive network not only provides a valuable sounding board for ideas but also facilitates optimal placements for his players, showcasing his unwavering commitment to their growth within Nexlevel Hockey USA.
